Almost all smartphone manufacturers are in a frantic race to find who can charge a smartphone in the minimum possible time. Last August, Xiaomi announced the Mi 10 Ultra, a smartphone with a charging capacity of 120W and able to recharge to 100% in just 30 minutes. It seems the manufacturer has not finished with its ultra-fast charging technology. According to a leaker, Xiaomi is currently trying to cross the 200W mark.
200W ULTRA-FAST CHARGING in 2021?
If we are to believe the information that leaked on Weibo, Xiaomi’s next flagship would benefit from a battery with charging capacity of 200W. This, in theory, allows the smartphone to recharge to 100% in less than 15 minutes. If this were true, the good news is that the wait to get this tech probably wouldn’t take too long since the smartphone in question could be released as early as next year. At the same time, Xiaomi is also said to be already working on 100W wireless charging technology.
There are, however, valid concerns regarding this new charging tech. It is possible that fast chargers over 100W may degrade a phone’s battery faster than expected. At the moment, we don’t know how Xiaomi plans to tackle this issue when it comes to an even more powerful charging solution of 200W or more.
Finally, the leaker adds that Xiaomi does not intend to release a successor to the Mi Mix 3, at least not for the moment. The Chinese company now seems to be focusing on a foldable smartphone, which would be scheduled for 2021. Xiaomi would also focus on another technological breakthrough: The photo sensor placed under the display. Again, the first smartphone with such technology should land next year.
