In addition to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and the Galaxy Z Flip 2, Samsung would launch 3 other foldable smartphones on the market in 2021. With this vast emerging catalog, the South Korean manufacturer aims to democratize the foldable smartphone in the coming months.
On the sidelines of the group’s quarterly financial results presentation, Lee Jong-min, director of Samsung Electronics’s business division planning team, spoke about the future of Samsung foldable smartphones. “In 2021, we plan to increase the revenues generated by foldable smartphones and continue to enrich our catalog in order to democratize them,” says Lee Jong-min.
“That’s not a big part of our total sales, but sales of foldable smartphones will increase every year,” said the executive. Next year, Samsung would not only focus on launching high-end oriented foldable smartphones, like the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy Z Flip 2. Leader in the foldable market, the firm is also seeking to develop cheaper mid-range alternatives.
Z FOLD 3, Z FLIP 2, Z FOLD S, Z FOLD LITE AND Z FLIP LITE IN THE PROGRAM
According to information obtained by The Elec, a South Korean media outlet, Samsung would wait for the release of the Galaxy S21 (S30) to market its new foldable smartphones. The Seoul giant would first unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 2, a new flip phone, after the first quarter of next year. By postponing the release of the Z Flip 2 by several months, Samsung wants to avoid hampering the sales of its Galaxy S21. As a reminder, the latest leaks suggest that the new clamshell smartphone would bring a 120 Hz display.
Later this summer, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 would take over from the Galaxy Z Fold 2. Among the expected new features we find a selfie sensor under the display. After that, Three other references should be added to these two terminals. According to the latest leaks, Samsung is launching a Galaxy Z Fold Lite, a convertible tablet phone that skips 5G, and other premium features but would be sold for around $1000.
The report also speaks of a Z Fold S, an even higher-end version of the Z Fold, and a Galaxy Z Flip Lite, an affordable, foldable clamshell smartphone. For now, information about these latter devices is scarce.
