Samsung Galaxy A12 and A02s: Officially Announced for 2021

While premium models remain a priority for Samsung, the Korean giant is not forgetting other market segments, which are just as important. In fact, Samsung is already revealing the vast majority of the entry-level Galaxy A12 and Galaxy A02s features as well as their release dates.

It’s only November 2020, but here are two Samsung smartphones already announced for early 2021: the entry-level Galaxy A12 and A02s. This is indeed what we learn in a press release issued by the Belgian subsidiary of the manufacturer, which evokes with great enthusiasm “revolutionary innovations that are even more accessible“. On paper, however, the two products are rather classic.

Roughly speaking, Samsung here wants above all to play the card of good value for money and strengthen the ranks of its Galaxy A range. On the front, the Galaxy A12 and A02s look very similar with a waterdrop shaped notch on the top of the display. Each panel benefits from a diagonal of 6.5 inches with a TFT LCD display.

As for the back, these two phones look quite different thanks to the photo modules: the Galaxy A12 features four sensors in a square shape, while the A02s has three vertically aligned cameras.

Here are the announced configurations:

Samsung Galaxy A12:

  • 48 megapixel main sensor
  • 5 megapixel ultra wide-angle
  • 2 megapixel macro lens
  • 2 megapixel depth sensor

Samsung Galaxy A02s:

  • 13 megapixel main sensor
  • 2 megapixel macro lens
  • 2 megapixel depth sensor

For selfies, we find an 8 megapixel front camera on the Galaxy A12, and 5 megapixels on the A02s.

Both smartphones have a massive 5000mAh battery with 15W fast-charging compatibility. For the rest of the features, Samsung simply mentions eight-core SoCs with greater performance on the Galaxy A12. The latter is also entitled to 4 GB of RAM against 3 GB for the other model.

The Galaxy A12 and A02s will both be available in white and black, while the Galaxy A12 will come with an additional blue color. In addition, the Galaxy A12 features Samsung’s Knox security platform and a fingerprint sensor on the side.

Samsung Belgium specifies that the Galaxy A12 will be available starting January with a 179€ price tag, while the Galaxy A02s will be released a month later and priced at 150€. However, no word was given if these phones will launch outside Europe.

Note that with that price point, these two devices can already prepare themselves for very stiff competition from the newly announced Poco M3.
