PHOTOS: Gadgets in Pantone Color(s) of the Year 2021

This year marks the second time the Pantone Color Institute chose two colors of the year, which seems apt given the year we left behind. The PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray + PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating are 2021’s Color (or Colors) of the Year. They are described by the consulting wing of the New Jersey-based printing and design specialist as “a marriage of color conveying a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting.”

The independent colors are said to highlight how “different elements come together to support one another.” These colors teach us both to be grounded and thoughtful while maintaining our optimism. It reminds us of what we’ll need to get through 2021 as we prepare and hope for the future where we get the COVID-19 vaccine distributed and hope for our world to open up again.

Pantone’s Color of the Year has helped influence product development and purchasing decision in different industries in the last 20 years. Its researchers usually spend the year traveling to examine color trends worldwide before they make a choice. But as TIME  reported, the pandemic limited their plans in 2020, so the collaboration was mostly done online with a reliance on local staff around the globe to report on trends.

While your buying decisions might not be affected by Pantone’s choice, we thought it might be fun to compile many gadgets that come in shades similar to the Color(s) of the Year. You can check out the galleries below, and maybe you’d want to score some of them for yourself*.
