CES is a great venue to check out new ideas, and if we were at the show this year, we would’ve definitely hovered around ColdSnap’s booth. The company offers us an enticing treat: single-serve ice cream in around 90 seconds. It’s basically pod coffee but with frozen treats.
ColdSnap can produce single servings of treats like ice cream, smoothies, coffee, and even frozen cocktails. Any time you want a frozen pick-me-up, you just need to insert the aluminum pods into the appliance. These pods are shelf-stable, which means you don’t have to store them in your refrigerator when you haven’t used them yet. According to the FAQ section on ColdSnap’s website, these pods have a minimum shelf-life of nine months, with some products lasting longer.

The appliance uses “cutting-edge freezing technology” that creates micro-sized ice crystals to produce frozen confections with a smooth texture. We sadly haven’t tried it, but we’re hoping somewhere down the line we get to try ColdSnap’s products.
ColdSnap said it dispenses the products directly from the recyclable pods, so you don’t have to worry about cleanup outside recycling the pods. The company proudly claims that its pods can result in “a 25% to 50% reduction in carbon emissions associated with making and distributing ice cream.”
The company will initially offer ice cream in different flavors. The other options will arrive “over time.” The machine and pods will be available through ColdSnap’s website and select locations in some U.S. metropolitan areas in the second quarter of 2021.
It might not top your list of essential kitchen appliances. Still, we like that this CES 2021 Innovations Awards Honoree gives us one machine that can handle different frozen treats without us needing to prep ingredients and wait too long for our just desserts.
