Cool Tech of the Week: Louis Vuitton Horizon Light Up Speaker

Louis Vuitton might not be the first thing you think of when you think of audio products. But the French luxury brand is re-entering the high-end audio market with a new Horizon Light Up speaker.

Inspired by the Toupie handbag and its spinning top-like shape, the Horizon Light Up also makes us think of a UFO.

It’s obviously not meant for audiophiles, especially with its mid-range Qualcomm QCS 404 chipset. But as What Hi-Fi pointed out, the Horizon Light Up is built to make a statement. You can listen to your favorite tunes on it, but it’s an artistic centerpiece or an objet d’art, if you will. This fusion of fashion and technology makes us think of what is possible for portable speakers.

The speaker is bound by leather and metal components, with the LV monogram all over its surface. The subwoofer is surrounded by a rainbow of 23 LEDs, making the brand’s flower insignia glow and change with the music. At its center, some lights also illuminate the spelled-out Louis Vuitton name.

You can listen to music even if this conically shaped speaker is on its side because it’s designed to “adapt to its orientation.” But LV also provides a dock for 360-degree directional sound. If you want to carry it around, you can attach a leather strap at the top.

As for its audio tech, the Horizon Light Up comes with a 3-inch woofer paired with two 0.75-inch tweeters to get that 360-degree sound. You can pair this speaker via Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Apple AirPlay. And if you wanted to take calls on it, it comes with three mics.

The Louis Vuitton Horizon Light Up speaker costs a hefty USD 2,890 (around PHP 144,890). It’s available for pre-order from Louis Vuitton’s online store, with shipping beginning on July 31.
