Xiaomi has unveiled its first Mi Mix device in years. This series typically features devices with bezel-less designs and seamless screens. So, it isn’t surprising that Xiaomi is introducing an under-display camera with the new Mix 4.
Xiaomi calls it the Camera Under Panel or CUP tech. The screen has a 400ppi area to let light pass through to the 20-megapixel selfie camera, which the company claims is “virtually invisible.” The display is a 6.67-inch 120Hz 1080p curved OLED panel with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection and HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support.

According to the company, CUP is a “technology iterated through three major generations, five years, sixty patents, a $77 million investment, and hundreds of engineers.” As The Verge pointed out, Xiaomi has made good of its promise to start mass-producing smartphones with its third-generation under-display camera technology in 2021.
The Mix 4 is the first device to run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus chipset, and it is paired with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB, or 512GB of storage. And yes, it is a 5G handset, and it is also rated IP68.
There’s a triple camera array at the back with a 108-megapixel Samsung HMX sensor, 13-megapixel ultrawide, and an 8-megapixel 50x periscope telephoto.

Expect blazing fast charging as the Mix 4 has a 120W wired and 50W wireless charging support for its 4,500mAh battery. This handset can get you a full charge in under 15 minutes compared to the Mi 10 Ultra’s 120W implementation. If you prefer to go wireless, it’ll take you under 30 minutes to fully charge. According to the company, its maximum rear temperature will be 37 degrees while charging at the 120W default mode.
The Xiaomi Mix 4 is available initially in China, with preorders starting on August 11 and general availability on August 16. Pricing starts at CNY 4,999 (around USD 770, PHP 38,900). We will let you know for any news on its international release.
