OnePlus 9RT debuts as gaming-focused device

While the OnePlus 9R borrowed many of the OnePlus 8T’s features, the OnePlus 9RT is forging a slightly different path. And it’s geared towards mobile gamers.

The OnePlus 9RT comes with a slightly larger 6.62-inch display. Its Samsung E4 AMOLED screen has a 20:9 aspect ratio and 2,400 x 1,080 resolution with HDR10+ support and sRGB and P3 color modes. It also has a 120Hz refresh rate and 600Hz touch sampling rate.

Other gaming-related features include “4D” haptic feedback and three Wi-Fi antennas positioned around the phone for uninterrupted reception while gaming.

The 9RT still runs on the same Snapdragon 888 chipset as the vanilla OnePlus 9, but it comes with “Space Cooling” that has a 59% larger heat sink. That boosts heat dissipation by 20%, which means this handset should offer a better sustained performance.

It comes with either 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB or 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, with the latter only available with the 12GB model.

OnePlus picks and chooses a camera setup for the 9RT. It mixes and matches elements from the different 9-series devices. It uses the same 50-megapixel Sony IMX766 seen on the 9 and 9 Pro, but it’s a primary lens this time instead of the ultra-wide module on the base and Pro models. This lens has OIS and can record videos up to 4K at 60 frames per second.

Its 123-degree ultra-wide camera has a more modest 16-megapixel sensor. It also gets a 2-megapixel macro lens. There’s a 16-megapixel Sony IMX471 sensor in front, which can record up to 1080p at 30fps with electronic stabilization.

The OnePlus 9RT still has a 4,500mAh battery with 65W fast charging support (officially known as Warp Charge 65T). But as GSMArena pointed out, it only has USB 2.0 transfer, which should affect you if you’re connecting the phone to external devices like monitors.

This smartphone has an in-display fingerprint reader, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, 5G with Dual SIM support, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC.

The OnePlus 9RT is available for pre-order in China, with shipping kicking off on October 19. It has a starting price of CNY 3,300 (around USD 513, PHP 25,962 converted). And it comes in Black, Silver, and Green.

OnePlus hasn’t shared its plans for an international release. And this model runs on ColorOS 11 already, which is the case with other 9-series models in China.
