How to block users on Spotify

I haven’t thought about needing to block someone on Spotify before. But it has been a requested feature by other users of the audio streaming service, perhaps to keep out an ex or any unsavory characters in your life.

Since 2019, it has been possible to block artists you don’t want to show up in your playlists just by selecting the “Don’t play this artist” option on the app. But to block other users, you needed to contact customer service for that.

Now, the company will let you accomplish the task on your own, allowing you to keep others you don’t want to have access to your page, public playlists, or your listening activity.

To block someone, here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Visit their profile and click or tap on the three-dot menu icon at the top right corner.
  2. Select the Block or Block User option.
  3. And you’re done.

As with any app offering a blocking option, you can also choose to unblock someone.

The feature hasn’t rolled out to my apps yet, but it’s good to know the option is there. It should start turning up on the app this week. The company is building on its ongoing mission to offer a great experience and foster a safe environment for users by adding a direct blocking feature.
