We’ve seen smart glasses that let us capture what’s happening around us and those that let us listen to music and take calls. But what about an actual pair that you can intelligently adjust its tint via an app?
Ampere’s Dusk smart sunglasses are app-enabled electrochromic sunglasses. You control the tint between dark or light with the accompanying app. Or you can adjust it directly on the frame via preset levels.
These glasses come equipped with polarized lenses designed to protect your eyes and blook 100% of UVA and UVB rays. They also help cut down glare and make things crisp and clear.
Unlike photochromic lenses or those typical transitional lenses that react to light, electrochromic lenses give you the ability to select the exact tint level you want. It uses the same tech seen on windows of new luxury cars.
If you want to take calls or listen to music, these glasses also have built-in speakers and mics. The advantage of this tech is you can listen intently while being aware of your surroundings. You can even call up your voice assistant of choice on these sunglasses.
The Dusk offers four hours of listening time and up to 20 days of standby time with its 110mAh battery. You can charge it in the case for just 15 minutes to get up to 80%. That wireless charging case also gets a pocket for an Apple AirTag, so you can keep tabs on it. However, you can’t track the glasses.
Ampere promises that these glasses will be sleek and lightweight, coming in at around 26 grams. The Dusk sunglasses are designed to be IP65 water-resistant, so you can take this pair out and about with you.
The company says they’re planning to offer a version with prescription lenses, but that’s coming later. Ampere is crowdfunding the Dusk, and its latest update estimates delivery to its backers by next month. You can learn more about it here.
