CES 2022 might be a pared-down affair this year. But there are still some products and concepts worth checking out, even if we’re doing that this year virtually. So, we wanted to compile a Hit List for you of some of our favorites showcased at the show. We’re dividing it into parts to churn it out faster for you.
Alienware Concept Nyx
This Alienware prototype combines a game server with a smart controller and software to let you play your game anywhere in your home. Say you start playing on your living room’s TV but want to continue playing on the laptop in your room; you can do that with the Concept Nyx. It lets members of a household play different games simultaneously without any input or Wi-Fi lags.
The server looks like a monolithic, sharp-edged black tower, but we don’t know what powers it. What’s as important as this big black box is its controller. As CNET pointed out, Alienware envisions the controller to carry your logins and game library. In theory, it can let you quickly pick up where you last left off in your game. And with proximity detection, it could potentially allow you seamlessly move from room to room.
If the controller seems familiar, it was part of Alienware’s Concept UFO handheld introduced at last year’s CES.
Dell Concept Pari
The last couple of years resurrected the usefulness of the webcam. But it also highlighted its problems, like how it can be weirdly placed on some devices and how video quality isn’t that great for many. So, concepts like Dell’s Concept Pari are worth paying attention to, especially since they have pretty practical uses.
This wireless webcam prototype can sit atop monitors or on the screen (for compatible monitors), be held in your hand, and even be placed on a stand where you can fit the height to your eye level with ease. And since it is wireless, the video will continue to broadcast even if you move it around.
It supports 1080p streaming via Wi-Fi and can be docked on a charger similar to how MagSafe works on Apple devices. It also has an alignment indicator light so you don’t look skewed or weird in your conference calls. It’s one of those ideas we really wish Dell would implement in future products.
OnePlus 10 Pro
OnePlus uses CES 2022 to tease the next OnePlus 10 Pro flagship ahead of its launch in China on January 11. The company didn’t share specs or pricing but showed off the redesigned rear camera layout. This next OnePlus flagship is expected to run on the unified OxygenOS x ColorOS operating system.
We’re digging the subtle olive green color, but we aren’t sure how we feel about the camera module yet. As seen in the images, OnePlus continues its collaboration with camera maker Hasselblad, making us curious about what the two brands have improved on the OnePlus 10 Pro’s camera. You’ll hear more from us about official specs when it launches soon.
Samsung 2022 Eco Remote
Last year’s solar-charging remote from Samsung got a new version this year. The 2022 version doesn’t just use the sun’s rays to recharge; it uses routers’ radio waves to keep it fully charged. It’s a smart move from the company, given that energy goes wasted otherwise.
Of course, it works as well as other remotes in the age of streaming, with dedicated buttons for services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+. The Eco Remote is made with recycled materials, aligning with Samsung’s sustainability efforts. And if you want it to match your interiors more, it comes in black and white.
Samsung Galaxy S21 FE
Samsung uses this year to introduce a Fan Edition version of its last flagship line. If you’re unaware, the FE models get some of the features Samsung typically reserves for its more expensive option. And the Galaxy S21 FE brings that along with elements of the previous Galaxy S20 FE.
It runs on the Galaxy S21’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor but has the S20 FE’s 4,500Mah battery with 25W wired and 15W wireless charging support, 12-megapixel triple rear camera setup, and 32-megapixel front shooter. It has a slightly different 6.4-inch display but with a 120Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate in Game Mode. It gets both 5G flavors and has 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage. There’s no storage expansion here, though.
The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE comes in white, graphite, lavender purple, and olive green. Isa’s hands-on video is coming out soon. We’ll make sure to link it here once it’s up! Check out the hands-on video and photos in this post!
