Pod machines for coffee have been around for a while. (We’ve even seen one for ice cream.) Have you ever wanted to have a pod machine in your home for your favorite alcoholic drinks? Black+Decker has an option for you with the new Bev machine.
It launched just around the time Keurig and Anheuser-Busch shut down the Drinkworks Home Bar. So, if that is a need you are hoping to fulfill, the Bev is launching in the Spring for USD 299 (around PHP 15,325 converted).
It’s a practical take to the concept. There are five stainless steel straws around the sides of the machine that sucks the alcohol out of standard 750ml liquor bottles of your choice.
You don’t have to worry about making a mess. You place the bottles of tequila, rum, vodka, gin, and whiskey right side up. You then fill the water container and pop in a pod with the juices and bitters. After that, you hit a button to select the desired drink strength.
The Bev’s internal pump will draw out measured quantities of each liquid and then use pressure to shove them into the capsule to mix your drink. Valves will direct excess liquor back into the bottles uncontaminated. It’ll then pour the drink into your glass. The process takes around 30 seconds to complete.
You don’t have to clean it internally. The whole system flushes the pipes with air and water to clean itself out.
Black+Decker partners with Bartesian for the Bev. It uses the company’s existing pods with the machine. A pack of six capsules costs USD 15 (~PHP770).
There is no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth support here. You don’t need a smartphone app to control it. If you do want a bit of a light show, the Bev can light up the bottles with LEDs.
