If you want a more familiar look or just don’t require the power the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra offers, there are also the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus. Both phones look similar to last year’s models, featuring the contour-cut design.
The base Galaxy S22, with its 6.1-inch display, feels like the perfect size for us. As a woman with smaller hands, it’s just much easier to carry around more compact devices. It stands out the most for me because it’s the most comfortable to hold out of the three devices.
These two phones feel sturdy and robust. The metal frame and their matte textured backs make them easier to grip. Like the Galaxy S22 Ultra, these two phones are equipped with Armor Aluminum frames and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ on the front and back to help protect the devices. They are also IP68 rated.
The S22 Plus has a large 6.6-inch display. But both get FHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panels with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and Vision Booster tech that adjusts brightness and color contrast so you can enjoy your content. The S22 achieves a peak brightness of 1,300 nits, while the S22+ reaches 1,750 nits. All of those specs mean you get a smoother scrolling, viewing, and gaming experience, and you won’t have trouble using these phones out on a bright day.
Color options are also the same for these models, with Phantom White as the hero color. Our favorite of the bunch is the subtle Pink Gold. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus also get Green and Phantom Black options.
As for camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus offer a 50-megapixel primary sensor, 12-megapixel ultra-wide, and 10-megapixel telephoto with 3x optical zoom and up to 30x space zoom. In front, there’s a 10-megapixel selfie camera. These cameras also offer better night photography features with larger sensors and Samsung’s Adaptive Pixel technology. You can expect clear and more stable videos and better portrait photography, even when shooting your beloved pets. A quick hands-on with the cameras show how easily these phones focus. Of course, we were in a well-lit studio, so that made things easier. We’re hoping to get our hands on a unit to try it out in real-life situations.
These two 5G-ready devices also run on Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors. They get 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. The Samsung Galaxy S22+ has a 4,500mAh battery with 45W super-fast charging support, while the base Galaxy S22 comes with a 3,700mAh battery and 25W fast-charging support.
