We have come quite far in the robot vacuum space that Roomba isn’t the only big name in the segment. The Beijing-based Roborock is one of the companies known for its intelligent robot vacuums.
Roborock introduced one of its newest models last month at CES 2022, and it represents some of the best technology we can get in the automated floor care space.
First and foremost, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra is a vacuum cleaner. It navigates through rooms in your home to pick up solid dust and debris. And like other newer robotic vacuums, it can even mop. But what makes the S7 special is that mopping pad. It can detect carpets in your rooms and automatically raise the pad out of the way, meaning it won’t mop areas it shouldn’t.
The S7 MaxV Ultra has full 3D mapping support and improved obstacle avoidance with the help of artificial intelligence, meaning it is better at navigating around wires and other objects that might impede its movements. In theory, it should avoid things like dog poop, too.
With its sensors and cameras that help map out your floor plan, you can even use the S7 to remotely view what’s happening at home and act as a speaker to let, say, misbehaving children or pets know you’re watching them. It doesn’t have a monitor where they can see you, but those at home can hear you and respond to you. If you ever thought you wanted to use your robot vacuum to make a call to your home, you can do that via the companion app.
In case you’re wondering, there’s no cloud storage for these videos. They are all just basically a real-time feed.
If that doesn’t feel high-tech enough for you, the S7 MaxV Ultra has a self-cleaning docking system that can clean itself for weeks without any human interference or maintenance. As expected, the dock is on the larger side, but with the tech included, we are a bit more forgiving about that.
One canister will suck up all the dry dirt into a dust bin, which has a bag that you’ll empty when it gets full. According to Roborock, you don’t have to worry about replacing that bag often; it can take you up to seven weeks to fill it up. Of course, this is dependent on how much dirt your S7 picks up.
It also has a system that scrubs the mop to wash it when it’s in the dock. It brushes out the dirty water and stores that in a container and then refills the vacuum with clean water. So, of course, there are tanks you need to refill so the S7 MaxV Ultra can get that clean water. And then you have to throw out the dirty water.
The auto-refilling system allows the vacuum to mop up to 300 square meters of floor space, a 50% increase from previous models.
That minimized human intervention is undoubtedly one of the most enticing things about the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. And then you get a sort of roving security camera in the mix that brings up the Amazon Astro. This Roborock vacuum has one significant advantage over that companion droid, though. It cleans as it goes.
All of that tech will cost you. The Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra retails for a pricey USD 1,400 (around PHP 71,842 converted).
