How to sign out of your social media accounts

Too much of anything is bad. That applies to everything in life. We all need breaks, which includes taking time away from the constant barrage of social media. But if you’ve been signed in for so long, you might not even know how to log out of your social media accounts.

That’s why we’re here. We wanted to offer a quick and easy guide to signing out of your accounts, which we discovered is harder on some sites than others. If you want the Cliff Notes version, you can check out this video:

Facebook

As confusing as Facebook’s user interface is, it’s actually easy to sign out.

On mobile, whether on Android or iOS, this is what you need to do:

  1. Open the Facebook app.
  2. Tap the three parallel horizontal lines
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap Log Out.

While on the desktop, you need to:

  1. Click on the inverted triangle icon in the top right of Facebook to pull up your menu.
  2. Click Log Out at the bottom of the menu that appears.

If you’re signed in to multiple devices, you’ll need to log out of each device separately.

Instagram

It’s also simple to log out of the other Meta-owned social media app.

On mobile, you just need to:

  1. Tap on your profile, the right-most icon at the bottom.
  2. Tap on the three horizontal lines (similar to Facebook) on the top right corner.
  3. From the pop-up menu, tap on Settings.
  4. Scroll down until you hit Logins. The Log out option will be there.

On your computer, the steps are similar:

  1. Tap on your profile image in the top-right corner.
  2. That will pull up a pop-up menu. Simply tap on the Log Out button.

TikTok

TikTok follows the same principle of signing out of your social media accounts.

On mobile, you just need to follow these steps:

  1. Click on your Profile at the bottom right.
  2. Tap on the three horizontal lines.
  3. Tap on Settings and privacy.
  4. Scroll down until you hit Login, and then you should see the Log out option.

As for the desktop app, all you need to do is:

  1. Tap on your Profile icon on the top right.
  2. The short menu will show you the Log Out at the end of it.

Snapchat

Snapchat doesn’t complicate the sign-out process either. But if you have Snaps that you haven’t saved in your Memories yet, you might lose those when you log out. (The app will prompt you to save them before signing out.)

Here’s how to log out on mobile:

  1. Head to your Snapchat profile, which you can tap on the top-left corner.
  2. Under the Profile tab, head to Settings. It’s the cogwheel-shaped icon on the top right.
  3. Scroll down until you hit Account Actions. You’ll see the Log out button at the end of all the options.

If you are signed in on desktop, this is what you need to do:

  1. Type this on your browser’s address bar: accounts.snapchat.com.
  2.  Click on the top-right icon to display more options.
  3. A pop-up menu will appear with the Log Out button included there.

Twitter

Twitter actually annoyed me when I tried to sign out from its mobile app one weekend. But before we get to that, let’s check out how to sign out of the web version:

  1. Tap on the three-dot icon in the bottom left. It will have your profile photo with your account name beside it.
  2. The pop-up menu will have the Log out option at its end.

Now, things are slightly confusing for mobile because Twitter opted to bury the option in the settings. This is what you need to do:

  1. Tap on your Profile icon in the top left corner.
  2. Tap on Settings and privacy at the bottom.
  3. And then tap on Your account.
  4. And then on Account information. It’s only in this sub-menu where you can see the Log out button.

I vaguely remember the log-out process on Twitter’s mobile app as simple as it was on the desktop. Here’s to hoping they bring that back. If not, here’s the guide to help you.
