A laptop that’s more than a laptop. This is what Huawei has been pushing for its MateBook devices. In Huawei’s terms, it builds its laptops to be “Super Devices” that offer “Smart Office” features.

An example of that is the Huawei MateBook 14 you see here. It isn’t just a 14-inch laptop, but it offers you tools to make it easy to use with other compatible Huawei devices you may have. For example, you can link it up to your Huawei phone and display its screen here or connect to a Huawei monitor with a few simple clicks.

These software features are a different story, though. Let’s get a better look at this laptop first. If you want to see what you get with the Huawei MateBook 14, check out this video:

The build feels quite premium. It’s a lot more squared off at the edges than the MateBook D 15 2021 I’ve used before, but I like the more compact form factor since it makes it easier to carry around. It comes in this sleek Space Gray color.

This Huawei MateBook 14 comes with a 2K FullView Display with a 2,160 x 1,440 resolution and 90% screen-to-body ratio. The company opted to use a 3:2 aspect ratio for its display to give you more vertical space. Since the laptop is built for work, this design decision means you get to see more of a document or presentation. I have been writing this story on the MateBook 14, and it has been handy for seeing all my notes.

There is a touch-enabled version of the MateBook 14, but the one I’m testing doesn’t have a touchscreen. It still has some slim bezels around the display that are as thin as 4.9mm.

If you want to use it for entertainment purposes, this laptop comes with dual speakers. Its other ports and connectivity options include two USB 3.2 Gen1, USB-C, HDMI, and a 3.5mm headset and mic combo. This gets a four-microphone setup, a pop-up camera hidden within the keys, and a fingerprint sensor on the power button. For speedy internet use, the MateBook 14 gets Wi-Fi 6 support. It also has Bluetooth 5.1 support.

The MateBook 14 runs on an 11th-gen Intel Core processor, up to 16GB RAM, and 512GB PCIe SSD. This model I’m testing runs on a Core i5-1335G7 with 16GB of RAM. According to Huawei, it gets the Windows 10 Home, but the unit I have already installed is Windows 11 out of the box.

This laptop comes with Huawei’s Shark fin dual fans and dual heat pipes to help keep it cool. You can expect up to 11 hours of use on a single charge with the MateBook 14’s 56Wh battery. And you can recharge it with the compact 65W charging brick. The charger supports SuperCharge, so you can even use it to fast-charge compatible Huawei smartphones.
