OPPO Reno8, Reno8 Z: What you need to know

It’s that time of the year when OPPO refreshes its Reno line. And a couple of the OPPO Reno8 models have landed in the Philippines.

We found the pair of Reno7 series phones to be a capable duo before. And we’ve heard great things about the premium Reno8 Pro. Unfortunately, that model isn’t going to be available locally. The devices that are arriving are still going to be pretty capable handsets.

Let’s see what you can expect from these OPPO Reno8 phones.

OPPO Reno8

The Reno8 is the standard model of the series. Its specs are similar to the OnePlus Nord 2T, which is unsurprising given the two brands are sister companies.

The design reminds us of the Reno8 Pro with the camera module sloping towards the back of the phone. It’s a refinement of the look we’ve seen on the premium OPPO Find X5 Pro

This handset runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 processor paired with 8GB and 256GB of non-expandable storage, and Android 12-based ColorOS 12.1.

Its display is a 6.4-inch 90Hz AMOLED panel protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The OPPO Reno8 has a 50-megapixel triple-camera array that includes an 8-megapixel ultrawide and 2-megapixel macro lens. In front, there’s a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

Ultra-fast charging is one of its best features. The OPPO Reno8 retains the Reno7’s 4,500mAh battery but gets an even faster 80W charging speed. OPPO claims you can get from 1-100% in just 28 minutes.

The OPPO Reno8 comes in two vibrant options: Shimmer Gold and Shimmer Black.

OPPO Reno8 Z

If you’ve loved the OPPO Reno7 Z‘s design, it’ll probably be wiser for you to stick with that model. There isn’t that big of a difference between the two models.

The OPPO Reno8 Z still runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 with 8GB of RAM, 128GB of expandable storage, and Android 12-based ColorOS 12.1.

It retains that fun RGB ring lights around the cameras. The screen size is still 6.4 inches with Schott Xensation Up screen protection and a 20:9 aspect ratio. It looks like it retains that 60Hz refresh rate, too.

The camera setup on the OPPO Reno 8 still seems to be the same as well with a 64-megapixel main paired with two 2-megapixel macro and depth sensors, plus a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The battery is also still the same at 4,500mAh with 33W charging support. The OPPO Reno8 Z now comes in Starlight Black or Dawnlight Gold.
