OPPO A17k: First look

For users looking to dip their toes into the smartphone space, OPPO has a new affordable option for you. The OPPO A17k just debuted this month and launched locally alongside the OPPO A77s and OPPO A17. Let’s get a better look at the phone.

The big battery is this device’s main selling point. It’s armed with a 5,000mAh one, which you recharge via microUSB. It is a budget option, after all.

The display is another hallmark of an entry-level phone with a waterdrop notch to house its camera. But it’s a large 6.56-inch IPS LCD with 1,612 x 720 resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio, and up to 600 nits brightness. OPPO opts for Panda Glass protection on the A17k, and we appreciate that there’s some form of protection on it.

The matte textured back has the same feel as the OPPO A17, but this option comes in Gold and Navy Blue. It gets a solitary 8-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel selfie shooter.

The OPPO A17k runs on a MediaTek Helio G35 with a modest 3GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. We’re pleasantly surprised to see OPPO introduce its RAM expansion tech into a phone at this price point. So, you can get 4GB of virtual RAM from your storage to improve performance.

OPPO will also start selling this handset on October 29. The OPPO A17k retails for PHP 5,999 (around USD 102).
