Huawei took a bit of time before releasing a new Mate device (about two years), but we recently welcomed the new Huawei Mate 50 Pro. It’s one of the new devices powered by Huawei’s XMAGE imaging brand. The company parted ways with German camera and optics manufacturer Leica in July. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its own tricks in the camera department.

Huawei added a new adjustable-aperture feature to its camera. It is convenient for group portraits. It gives you the option to manually modify the aperture or let it automatically make the adjustment for you. Zoom quality gets upgraded, too. The Mate 50 Pro uses its three camera modules and super-resolution and fusion algorithms to get as much detail in your photos.

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro comes with a 50-megapixel main lens with that adjustable aperture and optical image stabilization, a 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, and a 64-megapixel telephoto camera. In front, it has a 13-megapixel ultrawide camera paired with a 3D ToF sensor for a more secure face unlock.

The camera module features this Clous de Paris pattern. It creates intricate pyramid-shaped ornamentation. Huawei pairs this design with its distinctive Space Ring design. And if you pick up the orange vegan leather, it sports an industry-first Kunlun Glass. This glass has 10 quadrillion-level nanocrystals, making its screen more resilient and 10 times more drop resistant.

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro also supports IP68-rated water and dust resistance, so it isn’t going to be so anxiety-inducing if it gets wet or you find yourself in a dusty environment.

This handset gets a 6.74-inch 120Hz OLED display, a 4,700mAh battery with 66-watt wired and 50-watt wireless charging support, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 4G chip paired with 8GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. It’s one of the first phones to run on EMUI 13. It brings features like SuperStorage, which removes duplicate files and compresses rarely used apps, and Privacy Protection for photos, which automatically erases sensitive information embedded in your pictures (like location and time).

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro is available at a starting price of PHP 58,999 (around USD 1,040).

If you want to get your hands on this phone and score a great deal on it, Huawei and Globe Telecom are currently running their special First Sale offer until December 31.

Globe users can choose between the HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro’s two variants: the 256GB Regular Version in silver and black glass is free with Globe’s GPLAN 2499. The HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro 516GB Orange Vegan Leather version, on the other hand, is available on a discounted PHP 16,800 (around USD 296) cashout for the same plan.
