The vivo X90 Pro hasn’t made its way out of China yet, but it’s been spotted in the wild. And, of course, we had to take the time to appreciate it.

It’s fairly easy to tell the vivo X90 series from other smartphones. But it’s admittedly hard to tell the vivo X90 phones apart from each other. vivo took the route of just making the vivo X90, X90 Pro, and X90 Pro Plus look almost identical. All three get black and red color options, while the vanilla X90 gets an additional blue colorway.

Its most distinctive feature is that Oreo-esque camera housing at the back. Like its series mates, the vivo X90 Pro has this faux leather back finish with a metal strip running from left to right somewhat below the camera module. The words “Xtreme Imagination” are engraved in that strip for branding reasons, we guess.

The cameras are the vivo X90 Pro’s biggest asset. The Pro gets the Pro Plus’ 50-megapixel one-inch Sony IMX989 main camera and 50-megapixel IMX758 2x telephoto sensor. These cameras give it access to features like handheld astrophotography, tilt-shift, and subject freezing. There is no periscope lens here and the ultrawide lens is a 12-megapixel shooter instead of a 48-megapixel one.

But vivo’s custom V2 imaging chip is still onboard. The same goes for the ZEISS T* anti-glare coating for the cameras. For your selfie needs, there’s a 32-megapixel sensor in a center punch-hole cutout.

The vivo X90 Pro runs on a MediaTek Dimensity 9200 with up to 12GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and Android 13-based Origin OS 3 (at least for China).

This phone also features a 6.78-inch 120Hz OLED panel and a conventional optical in-display fingerprint. A 4,870mAh battery with 120W wired and 50W wireless charging powers the X90 Pro.

As mentioned, the vivo X90 Pro is currently only available in China with pricing starting at CNY 4,999 (around USD 740) and up to CNY 5,999 (~USD 888). But vivo has been teasing the arrival of the X90 series internationally, so we’re staying tuned for that.

We’d love to know your thoughts on the vivo X90 Pro’s design!
