ZTE has officially brought its powerhouse gaming smartphone, the REDMAGIC 8 Pro, to the Philippines. It joins a handful of new ZTE devices coming to the country.
But we’re not going to talk about those here. Let’s focus on this gaming handset. The REDMAGIC 8 Pro runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset paired with either 12GB or 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB or 512GB UFS 4.0 storage. It has more than enough power to handle even the most demanding games.

It has a 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 20:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. For an extra enjoyable gaming experience, it has a 120Hz refresh rate and 960Hz touch sampling rate. This REDMAGIC phone hides the 16-megapixel selfie camera under the display, which at a cursory glance you won’t be able to notice.

The phone itself is very angular, reminding me a bit of older Sony Xperia phones. The base 12GB model we got to see has this matte, sandstone-like finish that feels great in hand. It does have a bit of heft to it but that might be because of the extra gaming-centric feature it gets.

The REDMAGIC 8 Pro has a built-in ICE 11 multi-dimensional cooling system featuring a 20,000rpm high-speed turbofan to keep this phone cool. It has 520Hz shoulder triggers for games that need extra physical keys.

It also has a stereo speaker setup, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and USB-C charging port. The REDMAGIC 8 Pro runs on a large 6,000mAh battery with speedy 65W charging support.

Joining the under-display selfie shooter is a triple rear camera array, with Samsung’s 50-megapixel GN5 sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 2-megapixel macro.

The REDMAGIC 8 Pro is available at PHP 42,999 (around USD 780) for its 12GB RAM + 256GB storage option and PHP 53,999 (~USD 980) for the 16GB RAM + 512GB storage variant.
