Tecno Phantom V Fold: A new foldable contender

Tecno is the latest mobile brand to try its hand at releasing a foldable. The new Tecno Phantom V Fold is the first book-style foldable to run on the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor. If the chipset seems familiar, it also powers the compact OPPO Find N2 Flip.

The company also made sure the Tecno Phantom V Fold is competitively priced, with the 256GB model retailing for INR 89,999 (around USD 1,090) and the 512GB variant costing INR 99,999 (~USD 1,210). Both options come with 12GB of RAM.

But we’re sure you’d like to learn more about that display. Similar to the HONOR Magic Vs and Xiaomi Mix Fold 2, the Phantom V Fold gets a wider body than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 (but not as wide as OPPO’s Find N2). It promises to have a “virtually crease-free” 7.85-inch AMOLED screen with a 2,296 x 2,000 resolution inside the fold paired with a 6.42-inch 2,550 x 1,080 external AMOLED screen. Both offer 120Hz refresh rate support. According to Tecno, the Phantom V Fold can handle “200,000 folds,” which is similar to Samsung’s claims.

The Tecno Phantom V Fold gets five cameras all in all. The triple camera setup on the back includes a 50-megapixel main, 50-megapixel telephoto, and a 13-megapixel ultra-wide. There are two selfie cameras—a 16-megapixel one on the inner display and a 32-megapixel sensor on the cover screen. Those selfie cameras will be handy for video calls, but you’ll probably want to use the rear cameras for your photos.

Since this foldable is on the larger side, Tecno packs a bigger 5,000mAh battery with 45W fast-charge support. These speeds allow it to recharge to full in 55 minutes. Unfortunately, there isn’t any wireless charging support here.

The Phantom V Fold runs on the Android 13-based HiOS 13 Fold. Tecno says it customized the folding experience for the top 1,000 most downloaded apps globally. And that 90% of these apps have been optimized for split-screen and multi-window modes. You can get it in black or white.
