HONOR Magic5 Pro: 5 things you need to know

Aside from introducing the HONOR Magic Vs to the international market, the Chinese tech brand also had a new phone to show off at Mobile World Congress 2023. The HONOR Magic5 Pro is an all-around flagship promising a “best-in-class” user experience.

These are the five key things you need to know about this new phone.

Star Wheel aesthetics with Gaudi Curve

If you’re looking for a smartphone with a distinctive look, the HONOR Magic5 Pro adheres to its “Eye of Muse” design with a new Star Wheel triple camera system. It’s a tribute to Antoni Gaudi, with symmetrical dual-curved, ultra-narrow bezels and the camera module sitting top center on the back.

HONOR Magic5 Pro’s premium display

This handset comes equipped with a large 6.81-inch curved LTPO display and what HONOR calls a Novel Display Luminance Enhancement technology. That tech puts peak HDR brightness at 1,800 nits so you can easily see what’s on the screen even on a bright day. It also gets Dual-Luminance Calibration for typical 120 nits indoor and 800 nits outdoor brightness for better color accuracy.

HONOR equips the HONOR Magic5 Pro with a Discrete Display Chipset that improves the quality of moving objects. It gets an always-on high dynamic range for better video quality and a higher frame rate with lower power consumption for a smoother and longer gaming experience. This phone also gets HDR10+ and IMAX Enhanced support for a more enjoyable viewing experience.

It can relieve eye strain with Dynamic Dimming and TÜV Rheinland-certified low blue light emission. It also gets an LTPO display with 2,160Hz Pulse Width Modulation Dimming technology to minimize screen flickering and a Circadian Night Display, which promises improved sleep quality.

Break records and improved camera system

If you follow the benchmark rankings of DXOMARK, the HONOR Magic5 Pro reached first place in two aspects. One is the display, with a top score of 151, and another is the global camera ranking, with a score of 152.

This smartphone is equipped with a triple 50-megapixel rear setup for its main, ultra-wide, and telephoto cameras. The increased sensor size for this setup allows more light in, which should help with getting more detail. The Ultra Fusion Computational Optics tech “drastically” improves image clarity at 3.5x to 100x zoom on this phone. It also features an IMAX Enhanced Movie Master feature that lets you shoot and edit high-quality videos easily on the phone.

This phone also gets technology that allows it to capture movement in complex scenes or low-light situations. HONOR used one, in particular, to help break a world record. The Magic5 Pro’s AI Motion Sensing Capture was used to record the moment when an official Guinness World Records attempt was made for World’s Highest Between The Legs Slam Dunk.

Flagship performance

As a flagship device, the Magic5 Pro runs on premium specs. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor powers this phone with Android 13-based MagicOS 7.1 and improved Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. According to HONOR, this phone improves Wi-Fi performance by 200% and reduces Wi-Fi latency by 30%.

HONOR Magic5 Pro specs

The HONOR Magic5 Pro runs on a 5,100mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 50W wireless charging.
