If the Xiaomi Redmi A1 was on your radar but feels like it isn’t going to serve your needs, Xiaomi’s new Redmi 12C is your latest option in the budget segment.
The Redmi 12C runs on an older MediaTek Helio G85, which we’ve seen on phones like the narzo 30A and the Wiko T50. You get a wider range of RAM and storage options. There’s a 3GB RAM + 32GB storage combo, 4GB + 64GB or 128GB models, and a 6GB + 128GB variant.
We currently have the 4GB + 128GB model to test. And while it offers storage expansion via a dedicated slot, it doesn’t have the 5GB extended RAM option. From the looks of it, that’s reserved for the 6GB RAM model.

Xiaomi promises all-day use with its 5,000mAh battery with support for 10W charging. It gets a large 6.71-inch HD+ LCD with a 20.6:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi 12C features a flat-edged display with a slightly curved back. And like the Redmi A1, it gets various colors: Graphite Grey, Ocean Blue, Mint Green, and Lavender Purple.
In the megapixel game alone, the Redmi 12C improves on the Redmi A1 with its new 50-megapixel camera (a gigantic leap from the 8-megapixel rear of its predecessor) paired with a depth sensor and a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
