This is not the first time I’ve argued that foldables make great statement pieces. And HONOR certainly reinforces this idea for me. The company takes a more literal approach, though, with its newest concept foldable, the HONOR V Purse.

It uses the back of this outer-folding display to show off different designs that could match your outfit. And since the design is on a screen, it’s also interactive. HONOR even envisions the HONOR V Purse with different straps and chains to transform this foldable into the accessory of your dreams. While it won’t replace your bag, I like the idea that it could be another vehicle for self-expression.

HONOR even tapped its HONOR Talents Global Design Awards platform to get renowned cultural tastemakers to design custom always-on display designs for the HONOR V Purse. Some of these personalities include BURBERRY menswear design director Bram Van Diepen, contemporary artist Yunuene Esparza, dean of the China Academy of Art International College Yuan Youmin, and interdisciplinary artist Xiao Hui Wang.

The company plans to open the API to designers and emerging talents to develop other design ideas for this concept.

The HONOR V Purse is a concept, so there is no guarantee it’ll become an actual product. But I am hoping it does show up. Foldables are pushing the boundaries of smartphone/mobile device design. This concept is a perfect example of that. Plus, it’s also just fun and I like seeing more of that in the space.
