IN PHOTOS: HONOR Magic V2

If the bulkiness of a foldable is what’s holding you back, HONOR’s Magic V2 hopes to change your mind. This book-style foldable boasts a thinness and lightness that you can compare to a regular smartphone. As a refresher, it weighs only 231 grams and has a thickness of 9.9mm when folded.

HONOR redesigned the hinge with a “proprietary steel” that makes up 67% of the hinge material. This steel is supposedly 25% thinner and 20% stronger than what’s on the Magic Vs. The company also redesigned the support structure to reduce its thickness by 75%

That is pretty thin

Despite its thinness, it doesn’t impact durability, though. HONOR boasts that it’s the world’s first phone to pass the Swiss SGS high-reliability folding quality gold standard certification.

It can withstand 400,000 folding cycles with minimal crease change of only 36μm (equivalent to a hair, half the wire diameter). The external screen of the Magic V2 also features second-generation nano-ceramic glass that boosts its drop resistance by 30% compared to the previous generation.

Decently sized 6.43″ outer display

The HONOR Magic V2 doesn’t have an IP rating for dust and water resistance, which is a shame.

We got to take a quick peek at it during IFA 2023, and you’re seeing some of those photos here. You can also learn more about its different features here.

Yes, it folds pretty flat, too

This purple looks more striking in person, making it one of our favorites from the series alongside that iridescent color option. And that thinness is definitely impressive.

The Honor Magic V2 will be sold in Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere. There is no plan to release it in the United States. But we might have to wait a bit for its release. The Magic V2 is expected to come out no later than the first quarter of 2024.

Obsessed with this classy purple!

As for pricing, Android Authority reports it could retain the HONOR Magic Vs’ price. The Magic Vs launched globally in March 2023 at EUR 1,599 (around USD 1,713). So if the Magic V2 retains this price point, it would be around EUR 300 (~USD 321) cheaper than the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5.
