Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro hands-on: Pro & promising

This story was originally published on March 4, 2021, and last updated on April 21, 2021.

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 line has just been announced and there are four new devices. The Pro version which headlines the 10 series sounds pretty promising on paper: Equipped with a 108-megapixel main camera, an AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, and 33w fast charging. We got our hands on in and here’s our first look at it.

I have the Onyx Gray version which is a serious looking thing with a nice shine. For those who like color on their phones, there’s also a Gradient Bronze option (pictured on the box). The phone feels solid and has a decent weight despite the back being plastic — shine and all, it can get pretty smudgy so the jelly case the phone comes with is your friend.

Up front is a flat display and I did notice some bezels though that’s me nitpicking; what catches my attention is that bright and responsive AMOLED display. The 120Hz refresh rate makes everything feel so fast and snappy! There is punch-hole up top but these are becoming less and less intrusive to my use experience (Not sure if that’s because they’re getting tinier and tinier or maybe it’s because I’m getting too used to them?).

On the side there is a volume rocker and a power button that’s also a fingerprint scanner, though I didn’t realize this at first because it was so flush and unobtrusive on that side.

The bottom features speaker, USB-C charging port, and a mic.

Up top, an audio port, dear reader aaaaand I can almost hear the collective cheers of wired headphone users the world over. There also an IR Blaster up top – a consistent Xiaomi feature which allows user to control remote-enabled appliances with the Mi Remote app. Finally, more speakers and that’s on dual-firing speakers.

The left side of the phone houses the SIM tray. We have a dual-SIM setup with a slot for a micro-SD card.

A quad-camera setup graces the back of the phone. It features a 108-megapixel main shooter, and 8-megapixel wide angle camera, a 5-megapixel telemacro lens, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. Up front is a 16-megapixel selfie shooter in that punch-hole.

This phone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G with different variants: 6GB + 64GB, 6GB +128GB, and an 8GB + 128GB (in select markets). It runs on MIUI 12 on Android 11.

I’ve only had the phone for a few days so I’d have to spend more time with it for a whole review. But, I have watched a whole season of Attack on Titan on this (lol I love this show!) and the audio-visual experience is good. Cameras seem promising as well – my samples (in video) have impressed.

Just a few weeks after Xiaomi’s global flagship releases, the brand looks to raise the bar again – this time for midrange devices.
