OPPO has just unveiled their latest flagship: The OPPO Find X3 Pro. Let’s see what’s new.
Feeling the looks
With a noticeably cleaner design, the Find X3 Pro is stunning in simplicity. I personally loved the X2 Pro’s look and I expected to be let down by this phone’s design based on initial rumored renders but man, I was so wrong. In person, the unique curved back design makes for a great handling experience and it gives this thing a graceful look. The camera module protrudes from the back but the gradual curves make it seem like it only does so ever so slightly.
On the right is a power button, on the left volume buttons. At the bottom of the phone you find the SIM tray (with dual SIM slots), a mic, speakers, and the USB-C charging port. No, there isn’t an audio jack but the box does come with USB-C earphones.
The phone itself is thin and it features a matte back (at least, in the blue version I have; the black version is shiny, almost liquid metal-like in looks). Not only are the sides and camera modules curved, we also have a curved AMOLED display that’s Gorilla Glass 5. This QHD+ screen is bright, responsive, and snappy – 120Hz snappy.
Definitely one premium-feeling device, you certainly know this is a flagship the moment it touches your hands. OPPO certainly did well with those curves and I’m not one who’d usually describe a phone as sexy, yet, this phone is pretty sexy.
Pretty and pretty power-packed
It’s not just the looks I’m impressed with, though that certainly helps.
The Find X3 Pro is a 5G enabled device powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with 12GB or RAM and 256GB of storage – that pretty much means if there’s a phone that can pretty much handle anything you can throw at a phone, this would be one of those phones. Neither does Color OS 11.2 on Android 11 disappoint – it’s definitely gone a long way from the iOS clone it once was. Responsive, clean, and yes, there’s Dark Mode.
The Find X3 Pro packs a 4500mAh battery and features 65w SuperVOOC 2.0. OPPO promises 40% in 10 mins and my battery test yielded pretty close results: I got from 0-36% in 10 mins. Unlike the Find X2 Pro though, this phone is now equipped with 30w AirVOOC wireless charging and reverse wireless charging capabilities.
Camera crazy
This phone reps 4 cameras on the back but what’s unique about this setup would be the fact that there are two main shooters: A 50-megapixel main shooter and another 50-megapixel wide-angled shooter. This means you don’t have to sacrifice quality when switching to your wider lenses – a feature, dear reader, that I’ve been wanting so long.
Equally interesting is the 3-megapixel microlens that turns this phone into a microscope. Yes, you read right: This thing can shoot 60x magnification and it’s pretty cool – no other phone I’ve tested does this, or at least does this this well. Amazingly, there’s also a teeny ring light around this lens and you just put the phone atop the surface you want to magnify then tilt until you get the image. It’s a mind-blowing feat. Sure, one can always question how useful this feature is in real life but it can’t possibly be less useful that phones that zoom into the moon.
The last camera on this phone is a 13-megapixel telephoto lens which allows for 5x optical and 20x hybrid zoom.
If there’s one thing that I’m missing from this phone, it would be an in-display selfie camera. Up front is a punch-hole 32-megapixel selfie camera which isn’t bad, actually, but OPPO sort of set high expectations after they showcased that in-display camera at 2019’s InnoDay. Asked why we’re not seeing that tech on their latest flagship, OPPO engineers explained that they felt it wasn’t ready yet, and that we’d be sure to see it on an OPPO device once it is.
All in all, it seems like OPPO has released another hit. I will, of course, need more time with the Find X3 Pro to fully test it out but as early as now, I’m convinced this is going to be good.
