This smart mirror uses AI to help improve your mood

What if you had a mirror that can reassure you things will be okay? And no, this isn’t the stuff of fairy tales. Baracoda introduced BMind, a smart mirror that uses artificial intelligence to help gauge your mood and manage stress.

BMind uses generative AI and natural language processing to determine your mood before it suggests things like guided meditation or self-affirmations. It’ll examine your voice, posture, and other factors before it makes the suggestion. The aim is to improve your mood through different exercises, lights, sounds, and visuals. All of these are happening on board in the mirror. It uses programs from ThrivePal for these mental wellness features.

You interact with it via voice or hand gestures to avoid smudging up the glass. A fist pump or “knock” will bring you back to the main menu, and a thumbs up means you are selecting a specific item.

Similar to other AI assistants, you can ask it anything. The BMind smart mirror uses a proprietary operating system called CareOS. According to Huong Le Dieu, lead product manager at Baracoda, the mirror connects to the internet if the user only asks for it. The generative AI lives locally on the device. It can connect to the internet via an accompanying app. Baracoda said all your information is stored locally, and it won’t share your details without your consent.

The BMind smart mirror has an omnidirectional microphone for voice detection, a 4K ultra-HD camera, and Face ID for security.

Aside from offering mental health support, it also gets features like guided teeth brushing, skin analysis and coaching, bathroom water temperature monitoring, and more.

It is important to mention how combining AI with mental health features can be tricky. There is potential for bias in underlying algorithms and privacy concerns as well. Hopefully, this is something Baracoda has addressed.

Baracoda plans to launch the BMind smart mirror by the end of the year, with pricing starting at around USD 500
