HONOR Magic6 Pro: AI-powered features take center stage

It isn’t a phone release in 2024 if artificial intelligence doesn’t play a big role in the device. Unsurprisingly, the HONOR Magic6 Pro boasts a range of AI features, aiming to redefine user interaction with the phone.

All about AI

The highlight is the eye-tracking technology showcased at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit last year. This feature—still under development—promises to identify when you glance at notifications on the “Magic Capsule” (HONOR‘s take on the Dynamic Island UI element) and automatically launch the relevant app. It eliminates the need to tap on the notification.

Beyond eye-tracking, the HONOR Magic6 Pro also gets features like Magic Portal. This feature detects details like events and addresses in messages and automatically links them to relevant apps like maps or the calendar.

HONOR is also working on AI-powered video generation. Using its on-device MagicLM technology, the phone can create videos based on your photos and a text prompt.

Its camera system also has AI Motion Sensing capabilities, allowing it to detect motion and capture multiple frames before you’ve even pressed the shutter.

Flagship specs and camera system

Aside from the AI focus, the HONOR Magic6 Pro packs powerful flagship hardware. It runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, ensuring smooth performance. It also has a large 5,600mAh battery that supports fast charging at 80W wired and 66W wirelessly.

The HONOR Magic6 Pro’s 6.8-inch 120Hz OLED display boasts a 2,800 x 1,280 resolution and a claimed peak brightness of 5,000 nits (though typical usage brightness is closer to 1,800 nits). The phone is rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, the highest you can get on mainstream smartphones. You can get the Magic6 Pro in Black and Epi Green colors.

But you’ll probably want to pay closer attention to its cameras. The HONOR Magic6 Pro features a triple-camera system on the back. It has a 50-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture (f/1.4-f/2.0) you can switch depending on the depth of field you want in your photos. It also gets a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 180-megapixel periscope camera with 2.5x optical zoom.

HONOR promises four major operating updates and five years of security patches, ensuring software support for years to come.

HONOR Magic6 Pro: Price and availability

The HONOR Magic6 Pro is currently available in select regions like Europe and the UK for a starting price of €1299/£1100. Early bird discounts bring the price down to €999/£850. The phone will start shipping this month.
