Tecno Camon 20 Pro: 10 tips for supercharging your use

Sometimes it feels like we have to pay more to get useful features from our devices. So, I love it when more affordable smartphones offer handy features that make life easier or more fun. The Tecno Camon 20 Pro is one of those budget-friendly phones that pack in extra functionality I wished the other devices offered, too.

I’m not going to keep these useful tools and settings from you. I want you to get more out of your new device (or improve your experience if you’ve had it for a while). Let’s get right into it!

Personalize your Tecno Camon 20 Pro

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro has one of the more unique designs we’ve seen in the entry-level space. Tecno dubs it a “Deconstructionist Design.” It has a geometric pattern that makes the black color it comes in more visually striking. (There’s also a light blue option.) Now, you can get a matching theme right from Settings. Just head to Personalization to access everything from the ThemeWallpaper, down to the Always-on Display. I love that the Always-on Display is highly customizable. You can tweak it to your liking. Plus, you can access online themes and wallpapers to find what works for you.

Tweak those gestures

When you set up the Tecno Camon 20 Pro, you can pick whether you use gestures to navigate or stick to buttons. If you use the former, you can customize what the gestures launch. Open Settings, head to Personalization, and then scroll down to Desktop Setting. Once there, head to Gestures to access the different options.

Get more RAM

If you’re looking to get more out of this phone, the Tecno Camon 20 Pro supports virtual RAM expansion. It’ll use some of your storage to boost performance. This device runs on a MediaTek Helio G99 processor paired with 256GB of expandable storage (via a dedicated slot) and 8GB of RAM. With virtual RAM, you can get up to an extra 8GB of memory.

The device defaults to 5GB of RAM out of the box. But if you need more, head to Settings, then enter the Special Function category. Tap on MemFusion to set your additional RAM.

Another way to access this feature is by opening My Phone in Settings. Once there, tap on the RAM option to get redirected back to the MemFusion section.

Control the Tecno Camon 20 Pro on your PC

If you don’t want to pick up your phone while you’re working at your desk, the Tecno Camon 20 Pro supports a third-party PC client that lets you mirror your phone’s screen and easily transfer files. You will need to download the app through www.pcconnection.online.

Once you have that setup, you can enable the feature through Settings, tap on More Connections, and then you’ll see PC Connection there. Simply follow the instructions to link your two devices together and wait for your phone screen to pop up on your laptop.

Protect your phone

Getting your smartphone stolen is a big hassle. But the Tecno Camon 20 Pro tries to prevent that from happening. It has a Theft Alert feature you can enable in Settings. Head to Security then scroll down to the Security App section. You’ll see the feature there. An alarm goes off if the phone gets disconnected from the charger while it’s locked or when wired earphones are unplugged while locked.

Access a paid YouTube feature

One of the media features you get on the Tecno Camon 20 Pro gives you access to a paid YouTube feature. The phone has a Video Assistant that allows you to quickly pull up settings while you’re watching videos on apps like YouTube, built-in Gallery, and more. You can use this feature to block notifications, take screenshots and screen recordings, pull up Chrome in a small window to look things up, and play videos in the background with the device locked.

That last feature is something you get when you’re subscribed to YouTube Premium. And now you can access it for free. So, if you listen to podcasts on YouTube and want to save a little battery, you can activate Video Assistant. It’s accessible through Settings in the Special Function section.

Once you have that activated, you can just enjoy your favorite content on its 6.67-inch 120Hz AMOLED screen sans distractions.

Keep private info safe

Want to protect what’s on your screen from nosy seatmates? The Tecno Camon 20 Pro has a feature it calls Peek Proof that greys out portions of the screen to hide information you don’t want others to see. You can enable this feature in the Special Function section of the Settings.

A few camera tricks

Tecno keeps things a bit simple with the camera setup on the Camon 20 Pro. On the back, there’s a 64-megapixel main shooter paired with a 2-megapixel depth camera and a QVGA “AI” camera. In front, there’s a 32-megapixel selfie shooter. That main camera will do most of the heavy lifting for you. You can check out a few samples we took here.

By default, this takes 16-megapixel photos. But if you want that full-resolution picture, you can tap on the 64M icon when you’re in the Camera app’s Photo mode (AI Cam). Shooting in that full resolution allows you to crop in without it degrading the quality.

Another fun feature to try out on this phone is the Sky Shop feature. As its name suggests, it “Photoshops” the sky to make it look different than it is. You can see the samples here. Want to make it look like you can see the Milky Way at home? This gives you that option.

The AI color enhancements on the Tecno Camon 20 Pro can be a bit heavy-handed at times, so I’d recommend you toggle that AI icon on top on and off to see what works for you. And if you’re looking for more modes in the Camera app, you just need to drag the arrow that’s on top of the current mode you’re in to see the features available to you.

And kudos to Tecno for bringing a front flash that you can use for better selfies. It’s the lightbulb icon you can spot in the lightning icon when you’re taking selfies. It has an extra function that I’d want to talk about in the next section.

There are flashlight options

With the flash for the front-facing camera, Tecno smartly lets you use that as a flashlight, too. Swipe down from the top right corner to bring down the Quick Settings. Then tap on the arrow beside the Flashlight icon to choose from three options: Back flashlightFront flashlight, and  360-degree flashlight. That 360-degree option turns on both the front and back lights at the same time if you need that extra boost.

Make that battery last longer

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro runs on a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W Super Charge. This phone typically lasts me a day and a half so I can space out the charging a bit. And when I do need to top it up, it takes under an hour and a half to do that. If you want to prevent this phone’s battery from aging sooner, try and enable AI Smart Charge. You can get to this feature by tapping on Battery Lab in Settings. Head into Battery Setting then tap on AI Smart Charge. This allows the phone to learn your charging routine and adjust the charging speed so you can safely recharge this device.

Tecno Camon 20 Pro: Final thoughts

I’m stopping at 10, but there are more little tweaks you can make with the Tecno Camon 20 Pro to personalize it and make it work for your needs. I love that these unique settings come in a phone that’s on the affordable side. So, if you’re the type who wants to get into those settings, this Tecno phone has a lot to offer you.

The Tecno Camon 20 Pro retails for PHP 9,999 (around USD 178).
